About the First Ultimate Mk II

The centre conductor of the First Ultimate MkII is made of Linear Structured Carbon® (LSC). This is LSC centre conductor is composed of 12,000 individually insulated, 7 micron-wide strands with a collective diameter of 1 mm. The insulation of individual strands prevents electrons from crossing between fibres. The result is that electrons exclusively move down these incredibly narrow strands in one dimension – side-to-side movement is made virtually impossible, and astoundingly clean sound reproduction is the result.
The difference betwwen the First and the First Ultimate is the outer braiding. The First Ultimate MkII’s outer braiding, functioning both as screen and a signal return, is made of 6 layers of braided LSC fibres over the First’s 2, equalling 114,000 individually insulated fibres.

Why is The First Ultimate MkII equipped with a heavier shield?
On rare occassions, when interconnecting with some tube amplifiers using the First, a slight background hum was audible. This weak hum was caused by ground currents flowing through the cable’s resistive shield, adding up to an audible signal. The First Ultimate MkII’s 6-layer shield exhibits a much lower electrical series resistance, totally mitigating the risk of hum problems.
The flexible outer jacket is made of HULLIFLEX 4, a PVC and Halogen Free material. This jacket results in improved flexibility, and prevents any chemical deterioration over a long period.
